Loving God at Del Sol Church

Jesus made it clear that the first and greatest commandment in scripture is to love God with all your heart. (Deuteronomy 6:5, Matthew 22:37)    We want to inspire and move people toward life lived in a very real, loving relationship with a very real God.  Loving God is at the center of everything we do.

Staying Connected: The amazing thing about being in a relationship with God is that He’s with you all the time. We can do life with Him moment by moment through His Spirit who actually lives within those who have a relationship with Him. When we choose to stay connected and follow Him we get to be a part of something so much bigger than ourselves and have an eternal impact. (John 15:5-16, I Thessalonians 5:17, Matthew 18-19).

Following God’s Word: We believe that the Bible is the main way that God communicates with us. It’s a vital part of how we grow in our relationship with Him. Because the Bible is more than just a book, it’s the living, active word of God – we’re transformed when His Spirit helps us understand and apply Biblical truths to our everyday lives. (II Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, Romans 10:17, Psalm 1:1-3)

Engaging in Worship: Everybody worships something.  That is to say we all give our attention, devotion and loyalty to someone or something we love, value and respect. God created us with that nature and desire because He longs for us to spend time with Him, to see Him for who He is, to worship Him. We believe that coming together as a church to celebrate and worship God is part of our purpose and role as a church. (Acts 2:46-47, John 4:19-24, Colossians 3:16). Worship can take many forms and expressions. It’s primarily an attitude of reverence and love resulting in acts of service. As we regularly come together, we experience God’s presence and are reminded of who He is.

Del Sol Church is about more than just coming together on Sunday mornings for our worship celebration services. We’re all about Loving God, Loving People and Serving the World both on Sunday mornings and throughout the week at work, school, home, restaurants - wherever the people of Del Sol Church are living their lives.

Everything we do (Sunday morning worship celebrations, Bible studies in small groups, activities for kids, activities for youth, Celebrate Recovery support group ministry, seminars, etc.) is designed to help you discover how to have a personal, growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and how to have healthy relationships with the people in your life.

- What does God want from me?

God wants you to know Him in a personal way! The Bible, in 2 Peter 3:9, says that “The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise to return, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so He is giving more time for everyone to repent”. It also says in John 6:29 that “Jesus told them, ‘This is what God wants you to do: Believe in the One He has sent’”. God is merciful, wanting you to believe in His Son Jesus Christ as the only one who can wash away your sins and make you new in His sight so that you can have a personal relationship with Him.

- What does it mean to “turn from my sin” or “repent” and how do I do that?

Turning away from your sin and repent mean the same thing; those terms give the idea of going in one direction and then turning around and going in the totally opposite direction. God says in the Bible, in Romans 3:22 that “We are made right in God's sight when we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins” and just a few verses later in Romans 3:25 - 26, God tells us that He “… sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God’s anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed His blood, sacrificing His life for us. He declares sinners to be right in His sight because they believe in Jesus”.

- I believe all that; now what?

Now, just trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is about establishing a spiritual BASE for your life. You can do that by praying, and know that there are no magic key words that you have to pray. God is looking at the attitude of your heart more than any specific words. Prayer is simply talking with God, so just tell him that you:

§   Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for me.
Jesus showed He was God by coming back to life. “It is Good News that saves you . . . that Christ died for our sins just as the Scriptures said He would, and that He was buried, and three days afterwards, He arose from the grave.” 1 Corinthians 15:2-4

§   Accept God's free forgiveness for my sins.
“Now God says He will accept and acquit us—declare us ‘not guilty’—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we can all be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.” Romans 3:22

§   Switch to God's plan for my life.
“Turn from your sins and act on this glorious news!” Mark 1:16 “Don't let the world squeeze you into its own mold, but let God remake you so that your whole attitude of mind is changed.” Romans 12:2

§   Express my desire for Christ to be the Leader of my life.
“If you confess with your lips, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

- I just talked with God in prayer and established a spiritual base for my life, so is there anything else I should do?

There are two important things you should do now that you’ve crossed over the line of faith, established a spiritual base, and given control of your life to Jesus: get baptized and become a member of a local church.

- What is baptism about?

Baptism is basically about going public with your new found faith in Jesus Christ. It’s about telling people that you’re not ashamed to be identified with Jesus Christ. You can read more about baptism by clicking here and you can sign up to be baptized by clicking here.

- I was baptized as an infant; why should I be baptized again?

We recognize that many in our community were baptized as infants and while we respect that tradition, we believe the teaching of the Bible that baptism is for believers - those who are old enough to choose to commit their lives to Christ on their own. So if you have been baptized as an infant, that’s a beautiful tradition but know that God wants you to publicly identify with Jesus Christ for your own, after you choose to become a Christ-follower.

- Why is church membership so important?

When you become a Christ-follower by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you automatically become members of the worldwide Body of Christ. You share an invisible, unbreakable bond that links you to Jesus Christ and to every other Christ-follower in the world. Becoming a church member makes the invisible become visible and can be a defining moment in your journey as you follow Christ.

From the very beginning of the Christian Church, we see that organized, committed groups of Christ-followers were important. So much so that the first leaders of the Christian Church, the apostles, traveled from town to town establishing and organizing local groups of Christ-followers who were led by elders and pastors (Acts 14:21–23; Titus 1:5; Ephesians 4:11–12; 1 Timothy 5:17–20; 1 Thessalonians 5:12–13). In the Bible, the New Testament shows us that church membership was vital for Christ-followers when Christianity began, and that it still matters today.

The first Christians willingly identified themselves with local churches (Acts 11:22–26; 14:21–28; 15:40–41; 16:4–5; Romans 16:1–5, 1 Corinthians 1:2; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 4:15; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; Philemon 1:1–2) because they knew that it’s difficult to be accountable when you are not connected with other Christ-followers. Being a church members helps gives you the accountability you is need to grow spiritually (Hebrews 3:12–13).

A team has a roster, a business has employees, a country has citizens, and a church has members. We all have a need to belong. Becoming a member of Del Sol Church will identify you with your spiritual family and will show the leaders of our church than you can be counted on. Being a church member also identifies you as a part of the Christian family, so that you can receive any help you need first (Galatians 6:10).

- What is “First Wednesday”?

At the beginning of nearly every month, we have a special worship celebration service that we call “First Wednesday”, where we come together to remember what Jesus Christ did on the cross by taking the Lord’s Supper, or communion as some call it, together as a church family. After the service is over, we have a time available where you can come and received prayer for healing or other needs in your life, and be anointed with oil by the leaders of our church.
